Big Hopes Big Future

Home-Start Aberdeen is one of only two Home-Start schemes in Scotland currently delivering the Big Hopes Big Future programme. Our specially trained Big Hopes Big Future volunteers make a real and lasting difference by helping parents to give their children the support they need before starting school.

Recipe for Life

Home-Start Aberdeen’s Recipe for Life project (RFL) was developed in 2010 in partnership with NHS Grampian, who have continued to fund the project since its inception.

Recipe for Life project

Recipe for Life provides support for families by teaching them practical cooking skills, advising on food budgeting and shopping, providing oral health information and promoting healthy lifestyles.

Some of the most popular recipes from our Confidence 2 Cook booklet are reproduced below. Please feel free to download these and try them at home. We also have a Recipe for Life Flyer that allows you to learn more about the project.

Rising Stars Group

Our Rising Stars Family Group is a long-standing project to encourage quality parent/child interaction through play.

The sessions offer a wide variety of play opportunities including singing, story time, arts and crafts, music and games. Parents also occasionally participate in sessions without the children. All topics for these sessions are jointly agreed and include subjects such as debt management, food allergies, relaxation techniques and adult learning opportunities.

Baby Massage

In 2014 NHS Grampian supplied funds to enable Home-Start Aberdeen’s family support worker to train and qualify in baby massage.

We currently offer 1:1 baby massage sessions in the family home and group sessions from our city centre headquarters. Contact us to find out more about our baby massage project.

Debt Support

Funded by the Scottish Legal Aid Board, this two-year project was developed in partnership with Aberdeen City Council. Two debt support workers were recruited to provide advice for Home-Start Aberdeen families in relation to welfare forms, debt management and improved money management.
