Local Support Enables Fundraising First For Family Charity

16 July 2015

Family support charity Home-Start Aberdeen is set to receive a major funding boost, thanks to the combined efforts of comedy troupe The Flying Pigs and the local business community. The Flying Pigs will perform their show - A Bit of Crackling - at HMT for one night only on Saturday, 18 July with all proceeds going towards the work of Home-Start Aberdeen.

The show, which is a fundraising first for Home-Start Aberdeen, has been enabled by the commitment of The Flying Pigs, who have put together a special performance featuring highlights from their shows over the past 17 years. The evening’s main sponsor, Stewart Spence and The Marcliffe Hotel, has also been instrumental in helping the event happen.

Other local businesses that have given their time and expertise to support the event include creative communications provider XIC, which has produced the show’s programmes and posters.

“The team at Home-Start Aberdeen is immensely excited about Saturday’s performance and very grateful to all those who have helped make it happen,” says Georgette Cobban, scheme manager, Home-Start Aberdeen. “We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of companies and individuals, who have offered their financial support, skills, services and time to allow the evening to come together.

“As the largest Home-Start scheme in Scotland, Home-Start Aberdeen is continually striving to recruit and train more home visiting volunteers to meet the needs of the local families on our waiting list. An event such as this not only brings in valuable funds, it raises awareness of our work in the city to provide Aberdeen families with emotional and practical support in the home.”

John Hardie, one of The Flying Pigs, says: “Being a parent can be both rewarding and challenging.

“We’re delighted to be able to support the work that Home-Start Aberdeen does to strengthen family relationships so that children have the best possible start in life.”

A small number of tickets for The Flying Pigs: A Bit of Crackling remain available online at www.aberdeenperformingarts.com, by phone at 01224 641122 and at Aberdeen Box Office at the Music Hall and His Majesty’s theatre.
